Lana Grossa Cool Wool Merino 2000 is a long-staple Australian merino wool, premium quality, virgin, non-felting. This yarn is in double knit weight, slightly lustrous and velvety, has a good loft, and is suitable for both hand and machine knitting of year-round outfits, including open-work light jackets for chilly summer days.
Known facts: Yarns or fabrics made from Merino wool are also called "Botany Wool" - this term originates from Botany Bay in Australia, the main producer of the finest Merino Wool in the world. Merino, and other fine wools are usually regarded as being "bright" in appearance, like sugar as opposed to household flour. Merino is the oldest and most numerous established breed in the world. The breed is believed to have come from North Africa, but it was after the Moors introduced them into Spain that these sheep became so highly prized and valuable. Merino wool is the finest of all the sheep breeds, has a very soft handle, and the highest market price. Commercially, the fleece is used for high-quality apparel.
